Fitness Through Club and Intramural Sports!
Colleges and universities all over the country have many ways that students can get active and stay physically fit without having to go to the gym. For this post, we are going to discuss the club and intramural sports. What is the difference between club sports and intramural sports?
Difference Between Club and Intramural
To start club sports teams are made up of people who love to play a specific sport. Stevenson, for example, offers a wide variety of club sports teams including Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Soccer, Men’s Baseball, and even more. Club teams usually travel to different schools and play in games and tournaments versus other school’s club teams.
Intramural sports, on the other hand, are sports teams that compete against each other on campus. Intramural sports offer more sports to students then club sports do. Intramural sports at Stevenson consist of Volleyball, Basketball, Dodgeball, and many more. Intramural also doesn’t have practice, in most cases the sport you sign up for is once or twice a week and is just games.
I am a member of the Men’s Club Lacrosse team at Stevenson. The reason I decided to join Club Lacrosse is that I love the sport and it’s a way for me to be active four days out of the week without having to go to the gym. Lacrosse keeps me active with the constant running and cardio heavy practices.
I love going to the gym, but I get bored easily by repeating the same routine every time I go. I also don’t like running unless it’s for a sport. By playing Club Lacrosse I am able to stay physically active and mix up my routine. What’s most important is I’m doing something I love, and it is keeping me physically fit.
Why You Should Consider It
It’s important for students to stay physically active. Being active every day is not hard. Especially if you join a club or intramural sports team. You will be part of a community that loves playing the same sport or activity as you and you will be staying fit at the same time.
If you’re looking to improve or sustain your current physical fitness look to a club or intramural sports. The gym isn’t the only place you have to go to get active. It’s important to know that your College or University has these resources and that they are a fun and easy way to stay physically fit!
